Overview & History

SPEAG was founded in December 1994 as a spin-off company of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH). Its main objective was to further develop and commercialize the Dosimetric Assessment SYstem (DASY), which was the first electromagnetic near-field scanner optimized for compliance testing of mobile communications devices with safety limits. The 3rd generation scanner DASY3 was introduced in 1998 and has since gained various improvements. DASY4 was launched in late August 2002. DASY4 is fully compatible with the new standards which will become mandatory in 2002.

In December 2000, SPEAG released SEMCAD (Simulation Platform for ElectroMagnetic Compatibility, Antenna Design and Dosimetry), a novel and powerful TCAD tool for the analysis, design and optimization of antennas embedded in complex environments. SPEAG thus became the only provider of a complete set of experimental and numerical analysis tools. SEMCAD V2.0 is issued to release in early 2003. Since DASY4 and SEMCAD are based on the same postprocessor, the combination of the two products provides a unique R&D tool for the mobile industry.

In the fall of 1999 SPEAG became one of the founders of IT'IS and has remained a substantial annual sponsor. Strong links with leading research institutions enable SPEAG to maintain its pacemaker status within this very competitive market.

Key figures

SPEAG's sales have emerged from CHF 2.7 million in 1998 to over 10 million in 2001. Within the same time period positive cash flows and profitable operations provided the basis for future product development and research partnerships.
