TEM Horn Antenna

Model

This TEM mode horn is excited using a thin monople pin feed, placed at the back of the feeding guide, which excites the appropriate mode. The guide is flared to the horn aperture, which launches the wave.

Simulation

A transient simulation is run to asses the frequency response and operational bandwidth of the horn. The maximum grid step is limited by the upper frequency of the band. The minimum grid step is chosen as to resolve the walls of the guide and aperture of the horn. Further refinement is applied to the aperture to reduce the staircasing for non-conformal parts.

Results

The desired mode can clearly be seen inside the guide and aperture of the horn, indicating that the pin feed is operating as expected. Mutiple frequency far-field radiation patterns are recorded during the broadband simulation. The reflection coefficient for the antenna is recorded, illustrating the operational bandwidth.
