Surface Mounted WLAN Antenna

Model

This surface mounted antenna is a dual-band antenna designed to operate in the WLAN frequency bands. A microstip feedline excites two dual loops to achieve the dual band operation at the lower band (2.4 GHz) and at the upper band (5 GHz). A truncated ground plane is applied to enhance radiation.

Simulation

A minimum grid step of 0.08 mm is used to resolve the 0.4 mm substrate with 5 cells. The 0.75 mm wide stripline used to feed the antenna is resolved with 7 cells. A broadband simulation is run to cover the band from 2-7 GHz. Near-field and far-field data is recorded at specificed frequencies within the band.

Results

The dual-band performances extracted from the reflection coefficient. The TEM mode along the microstip can be easily varified by checking the vector components of the E- and H-fields.
